 Along the Road
            Camel had enjoyed significant success through the 1970's. Their Albums Mirage and Snow Goose were hailed as ground breaking and the band
was developing a loyal fan base. Sadly, as with so many other successful bands, friction began to develop between the members. By 1978, it was clear
that collaboration between Camel's keyboardist Peter Bardens and their guitarist Andrew Latimer was coming to an end. Breathless would be their last
album together. The liner notes for that album quote Latimer on the issue:
            "Peter and I always get on well when creating, but the problems started when we came to the actual execution of the ideas. In the studio, Peter
and I were just stifling each other. I wouldn't let him get any of his ideas out and he wouldn't let me get any of mine out, so it became pretty heavy
going. We mutually agreed to part company on the creative level. Richard and Andy wanted to stay with me, so Peter went. I think it was a very good
move for both of us."
            Peter Bardens finished writing and recording Breathless but had no intention of touring with the band. To replace him, the band recruited Jan
Schelhass from Caravan and a cousin of current bassist Richard Sinclair, named David. The tour began in England with 28 shows in October and
November of 1978. Eight shows were then played in Europe before the holiday break. The new year saw the band in Japan for 5 shows before heading
for the west coast of the United States. At this point the band had a good feel for the new music and the new members were performing the old Camel
quite easily.
            The Setlist for the California shows contained both old and new material. Since the release of Snow Goose, Camel had been slowly adjusting their
musical style to make it more "accessible". By the time Breathless was released, the long intricate instrumental pieces were gone, replaced by more
traditional sounding light-rock creations. Still, Breathless was not devoid of surprises. Richard Sinclair included a song called "Down on the Farm" which
has sparked many an opinion. For better or worse, it was not included in the live set for the US shows. The setlist performed during this tour contained 3
songs from the new album Breathless, 3 songs from the previous album Rain Dances, and 9 songs from the earlier albums. Though Camel usually plays
their songs at a tempo very similar to the studio versions, a number of the songs performed here are lengthened by extra improvisation. “Tell Me”,
“Rhayader”, and “Rhayader Goes To Town” in particular are extended by saxophone segments not found on the commercial release. These segments
give us a chance to appreciate once more the amazing talent of saxophonist Mel Collins.
            The recording of this show is outstanding. The equipment used at the time consisted of a Teac PC-10 and Sennheiser MKH404's. The provider of the
first generation cassette used for this project was a friend of the taper and was at this show. He told us that the equipment was brought in by the taper's
girlfriend who taped the recorder to the inside of her leg so it would not be discovered. All who enjoy this remastered recording owe a debt of gratitude
to this unknown woman. Thanks to her devotion to music we can all re-live this wonderful Camel performance. * (see note below)

Notes from the Re-Master
            This show came to us as a 1st generation cassette tape from a friend of the taper. As noted in the liner text, Teac and Sennheiser equipment was
used to record the show so we started the remaster with an outstanding quality recording. The Roxy is quite small as a venue so the size of the room did
not interfere too much with the overall sound of the show. Fortunately, the taper was able to record the whole performance.
            We began by digitizing the tape using 32-bit precision. A progressive asymmetry in the channel strength was noted immediately and fixed. The
tonality was quite good but still needed a bit of a boost in the bass range. The adjustment gave the recording a bit more of a punch. Hiss was generally
low, but did become annoying in certain sections so a selective hiss reduction technique was used. Other peculiar noises were found intermittently in the
Left channel and were subtracted out. The microphones were occasionally bumped and so this artifact was minimized whenever found. Selective tone
and dynamic adjustments were used to enhance the recording, depending on the instrument leads at the time. The whole show was tracked and split
into the final two discs.

Thanks PRRP STAFF

* An added note many years after this was originally seeded

I was one of the tapers.
If you read the story above, the girls name is Susan or just Sue to us.
It was becoming more and more difficult to get this equipment into the venues.
Sue helped get the tape deck into quite a few shows at the Roxy and elsewhere.
A real sweetheart and I still talk to her.

This tape deck was not small and we called these "Suzie Sneaks" recordings in honor of her putting up with some embarrassing moments.
John was her hubby and owned the recording equipment.
Mark (the B-Man) and Mike (the Flying M) held the microphones.

The technical information is accurate.
I included a couple photos of the equipment and of Sue.

I'll get my hands on these masters some day and share them around.
But for now this great PRRP production is what I can do.
enjoy

YOU CAN KEEP MY THINGS…
    The tempest had died down. It was done.  Peter Gabriel had left Genesis in 1975 after The LAMB LIES DOWN ON BROADWAY tour and was now about to
embark upon a whole new venture as a solo artist.  Phil Collins was the new lead singer of the band Gabriel had left behind, and with the albums A TRICK
 OF THE TAIL and WIND AND WUTHERING, both released in 1976, Genesis were enjoying new levels of success in album sales and concert attendances.  This
prompted mixed feelings for their ex-frontman, as he would later explain: “It felt kind of strange for me. I mean, I was very happy for the guys because I
knew they could make it without me but it’s strange how the way people feel about you can change so fast. When I was with Genesis, just because of
the costumes and the stage shows, people assumed that I ‘was’ Genesis, that I was doing everything, which was a faulty vision that I constantly fought
to dispel. But when I had left and the band was reaching new heights, people started to assume that I had done nothing, which was a bit ego-bruising,
to say the least !”…
   With that in mind, Peter Gabriel now had to prove that he could stand alone and create his own musical world.  No easy task after such an incredible
 run with as great a band as Genesis was then, but Gabriel was never a man to shy away from a challenge From the very start, he knew that he had to
be as different from Genesis as possible, Both musically and visually - no more long and syncopated musical suites, no more batwings and flower masks.
The last months of 1975 and the first half of 1976 were spent at his home in England, resting with his family and slowly writing new material on the piano.
Having dug deep into his own musical background, he created a very special collection of songs, each of which had a distinct personality of its own,
and he set about recording his first solo album.  In an effort to get away from the archetypal ‘English’ rock sound, Gabriel sought the help of American
producer Bob Ezrin, well known for his work with Alice Cooper and Kiss.  Most of the resulting album was recorded at Soundstage studio in Toronto,
Canada. Ezrin’s involvement in the project undoubtedly helped bring forth the raw sound that Gabriel was looking for, but it was the choice of musicians
 in his new recording band that would ultimately make this first solo album such a departure from Gabriel’s previous recorded work.
   Steve Hunter’s harsh guitar licks and Allan Schwartzberg’s heavy drums were as far removed from the Hackett-Collins combination as could possibly be
imagined, while Larry Fast’s discrete synthesizer work couldn’t be further away from Tony Banks’ huge presence on the keyboards. Add Tony Levin, an
amazing bass player with a unique style of his own, and the brilliant ex-King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp (who would insist on staying in the shadows,
both on the album and the ensuing tour when he was referred to only as ‘Dusty Rhodes’), and you have all the elements needed to create an album as
different from Genesis and progressive rock in general as a fly is from a windshield !  To further accentuate the contrast, Gabriel would also bring in
orchestral arrangements for one of the songs, another first for the ex-Genesis angel.  One could still hear vague musical remnants of Peter’s days with
Genesis in songs like “Moribund The Burgermeister” and “Down The Dolce Vita”, but for the most part, this first solo effort was very fresh in its overall
approach and it came as a delightful surprise to Peter Gabriel fans the world over.  The advertising campaign which accompanied the release of the
album in February 1977 advised listeners to ‘Expect The Unexpected’.  Wise words indeed.
   With the album and first single “Solsbury Hill” achieving deserved success, March 1977 saw Gabriel taking his new music out on the road.  Electing to
avoid using costumes and elaborate stage choreography, Gabriel’s voice, body and music would now be the only weapons he would use to try and
conquer a whole new audience.  The set list consisted of the new album in its entirety, along with early versions of new songs that would later appear on
his second album, and even a few covers.  By the time the tour reached the UK, the following month, “Why Don’t We?” had been dropped from the set,
never to reappear live or in a recorded version.
   Was the surprisingly heavy interpretation of Genesis’ “Back In NYC” as an encore a concession to his older fans ?  Only Peter could tell us but after playing
 “The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway” on the 1978-79 tour for his second album, no more Genesis song would ever be included in the set list of a Peter
Gabriel show.  The man was intent on making it on his own !  And it all began with the 1977 tour for his first album, from which we proudly bring you this
exceptional recording of what was only Gabriel’s sixth ever solo performance.  We most certainly hope that you are going to enjoy it as much as we do.
PRRP Staff

Notes from the Re-Master
            This recording comes to us as a CD copy of the master pre-FM reels. The show was initially broadcast in the Cleveland area which has lead to a
number of versions of the recording being available to the public. But this is the first time, to our knowledge; this pre-FM source has been available.
            Despite its Pre-FM status there was still quite a bit of noise in this recording. Multiple techniques of noise reduction were tried but eventually an
inversion-subtraction method was found to be most effective. This noise cancellation technique was variably applied throughout the show as needed to
reduce the perceived noise. Manual removal of pops and clicks was necessary as was selective removal of an occasional buzz.
            Tonality also needed a bit of adjustment. The original source was quite deficient in the bass and sub-bass components. Those were boosted. There
were sections with prominent bass drum where even further bass enhancements were needed. Other sections were a little excessive in the treble range.
Rather than a global treble reduction, a dynamic de-esser in the high treble range seemed most effective. This technique smoothed both the excessive
sounding “SS” when sung and the occasional piercing character of the high toned instruments.
            Track gaps were found and removed. Some audience noise was reduced in volume but not was cut in length. The discs were re-balanced
because the interview was added at the end of the show. This required a mix-pasting of the original cut in the show but fortunately, no patch was
necessary as the cut occurred during applause. Finally, a small amount of echo was added to enhance the sound. Since this was a soundboard
recording the presence was a bit dry and the sound character of a truly live performance was lacking. Adding a bit of echo helped to correct this
problem.
            The Interview section had quite a bit of noise that needed reduction. Two different techniques were used to accomplish this. The tonality also
needed adjustment. Bass was reduced and treble/midrange was enhanced to better understand the dialogue. Frequent pops and clicks occurred and
were manually removed. Finally, the Right channel was suppressed compared to the left and so the two channels were re-balanced.

Robert is fine voice, is usual here.

As noted, this has very good sound overall, however it is very treble-y. The original notes state "Recorded from
the front of the stalls and on the right, about 15 feet from the PA, thois runs a little toppy, and the bass is
a touch out of control too". This was sent to me by David ORorey in order to share as a torrent, and while the
original text file (included in the torrent) suggests this has been shared online somewhere before, this has
not been shared online widely before, I certainly had not seen it before a week or so ago myself.

Looking for Clues is at a faster pace than usual here, Pride is a little re-arranged too. Dreams to Remember,
while not as clear as on the Super Nova video, is a joy to hear before Robert added the guitar overload to this
Otis Redding cover later, on Don't Explain.

The instrumentation on Woke up Laughing is considerably different here. On the one hand, rhythmically, to the
untrained ear it sounds a bit of a mess - like the remake on the Addictions cd, but on the other there is some
fine bell-like instrument(s) used on it.

Johnny and Mary is given different treatment too - the bass sound suffers here with the recording equipment and/or
the sound of the venue, but it's an interesting arrangement, and subtly different to other live versions across
Robert's tours over the years.

Robert sometimes would ad-lib or throw in lyrics of other songs in performance....while he was not alone in doing
that, here he takes it to extremes by singing "Yellow Submarine" for half of the final song, his huge hit "Addicted
to Love"!

An eq'd version, with reduced treble - I found the original version I am sharing here a bit painful to my ears despite
the overall fidelity - is being placed online shortly elsewhere.

If this version is for you, enjoy.

Robert Palmer shows still 'out there' which have not turned up on torrent sites, to my knowledge -

Live Holland - Various dates (around 1979 or so) - FM
Nijmegen Holland 18 Nov 1979
Le Palace, Paris 10 June 1983 - Soundboard

COMMENT

A brilliant release. The first concert from Paisley Park is the unedited 'Beautiful Experience' broadcast. This is the complete concert and includes the performances from when the camera's were not rolling. Ironically some of the best material was performed when the camera's were off, including a stunning, lengthy and extremely funny jam on both 'Peak The Technique' and 'None Of Your Business'. The 2nd show is from P's birthday concert (although the show actually started after midnight on June 8th) in 1995. This is an incomplete version of the show, however the complete version is only circulating as an audience recording - this incomplete version is SB. The show features a rare performance of 'Return Of The Bump Squad' which has some mean bass playing. The show is extremely similar to the first half of the recently completed Gold Experience Tour and features little in terms of improvisation. Overall this is an excellent release of 2 soundboard shows from the Gold era.

Neil Young 2012-09-29 Global Citizen Festival 2012 Central Park Great Lawn New York, NY

Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Global Citizen Festival 2012
Central Park Great Lawn
New York, NY
29 September 2012

As usual these days, these sets recorded straight to my Edirol R-09's built in mics. The copied from SD card to my Mac and cut into tracks exported to FLAC with Amadeus Pro. Fingerprints created with xACT; Torrent file ands upload facilitated with Transmit.

These will convert back to 24/48 audio. Convert as you need but please do not trade other then original files.

This is an amazing set by Neil and the Horse at the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park NYC. It features some old favorites and three nice new songs the Horse has been playing this year. This was recorded by me out in the field; overall sound is good not too much crowd or chatter. This is none of the rare times Neil is actually out playing under a full moon and a Harvest Moon a that. (Neil usually saves full moon dates each month for the studio.) An amazing set for a great cause, one of the big issues they were discussing from the stage between music sets was the drive to fully eliminate Polio from the last three countries in the world where it exists and I think it was somehow pretty cool that the big headline act is fronted by a Polio survivor. Rock on Neil!!

Here is the setlist.
1-Love and Only Love
2-Powderfinger
3-Born in Ontario
4-Walk Like a Giant
5-The Needle and the Damage Done (Solo Acoustic)
6-Twisted Road (Solo Acoustic)
7-Fuckin' Up
8-Rockin' in the Free World (with all the previous acts joining in)

Circulated by Nelly-Duke in November '23 (& a welcome addition to his particular catalogue), this required some work in Audacity (Amplification on Both

Channels of +1.5db overall with tweaks of -4db > +12db, Right Channel tweaks between -2.5db > +3db & Left Channel tweaks of -2.75db > +2.5db, the very

end of Track 15 & very beginning of Track 16 have respective Fades Out & In due to a tapeflip, & 15s of extraneous audience was excised from the end of

the recording with Fades added appropriately either end of the recording due to abruptness) prior to the sbe's & flac conversion...

Taped on the UK leg of the '7th Tour Of A 7th Tour', this is a fairly good recording of a very good show with a partisan audience - all elements are

present & correct (mp3 samples below), good onstage mix & balance & a healthy setlist along with Bruce's banter - Nelly-Duke's notes are brief...

     'That was probably the best show I saw Maiden on that tour. Donington was rotten weather and the tragic events will never be forgotten...'

Md5 & ffp included...

Don't turn this to mp3, decode it to wav & burn 'em...

This is a MONO recording, done from the front row about five feet in front of the orchestra PA.  This is a unique recording as it emphasizes the orchestra parts, often at the expense of the rest of the band.  The late Michele Marie Moore (R.I.P.) wrote a detailed description of the recording, which is below.  I am posting this show with the thought that some people might want to check out the orchestra parts, since they are pretty much drowned out in every other recording of this tour.  I will post more of my other Symphonic shows later.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Michele Marie Moore's notes:
This is a rather unusual recording, and will *not* be to everyone's taste.  Read the notes that follow and make sure you want to collect this show.
The "star" of this particular recording is the orchestra.  The mic placement in the venue was such that the orchestra is at times heard more loudly than the band.  For those of you who really want to know what the trumpets were playing at a particular moment, or what countermelody was carried by the second violins during And You and I, this would be a recording you would enjoy.  If you prefer to hear the band in front of everything, this is not the weed for you.
Disc 1:  6 tracks - Playing time:  64:36
1.  CTTE:  Orchestral overture and opening of CTTE is missing.  Track 1 begins in the opening guitar section before the vocal entrance.  Low volume at first, then increases.  Vocals are low in this recording.  Strings are quite a bit out of tune early in CTTE, but this seems to "clean up" in later sections.  The orchestral parts in this song are extremely interesting, particularly the syncopated punctuation provided by strings and brass.  Provides an interesting study of Groupe's arranging style.  Very clear woodwinds and brass in the fugues section... nice!  String and percussion contributions during the quiet, trance-like middle section of the song are wonderful!  Brislin's keyboards are overwhelmed by the orchestra in the crescendo section of "I Get Up, I Get Down."  The orchestra in the forefront of this section gives it a completely different kind of exciting punch.  Hearing the strings support the guitar melody at the beginning of "Seasons of Man" was kind of strange and unexpected.  Again, Brislin's keyboards were swallowed up, barely discernible.  Good recording, but very different!
2.  Excerpt from "Give Love Each Day," leading into "Long Distance Runaround" Lovely!  Wonderful orchestra fidelity and dynamics!
3.  LDR: Seems a little fast, but nice interplay of strings with the guitar lead.
4.  Don't Go: You don't expect to hear muted trumpets!  They add a humorous aspect.
5.  In The Presence Of:  False start, quick recovery.  Pizzicato strings and muted trumpets in the early section of "Turn around and remember" are very nice.  But the oboe countermelody... never heard on any other boot... just gives chills!  The orchestra parts are great in this song!  The orchestra makes the long, extended crescendo in the final section into much more than it is even on the studio recording.
6.  Gates of Delirium:  Orchestra and band not together very well in the beginning, but this is remedied before the vocals begin. Pretty intense!
Disc 2:  6 tracks - Playing time:  66:58
1.  Steve solo - don't know the name of it.  Sweet!!
2.  Steve - Clap - Perfection, as always.
3.  Wonderous Stories - no orchestra, clean performance.
4.  Perpetual Change - no orchestra - band is SMOKIN'!!
5.  And You and I - vocals are very "in front" in the mix on this song.  Orchestral embellishments are very nice here, many not audible on other recordings.  Pretty nice!
6.  Ritual - Balance between band and orchestra is fairly centered in this song... neither outplays the other.  Orchestra offers nice support in "Nous Sommes du Soleil," expanding and embellishing a bit those segments we are used to hearing on mellotron.  Nice arrangements for woodwinds.  Drum interlude is VERY intense!  You can feel it!
Disc 2:  3 tracks - Playing time:  29:35
1.  Your Move/I've Seen All Good People - Lots of audience sing-along.  Strings quite noticeable during AGP section... strange to hear them "rockin'."
2.  Starship Trooper - no orchestra - pretty intense jam in the last section.
3.  Roundabout - abbreviated version. ....well, you know.
